چکیده

The approach of the atomic pair distribution function (PDF) technique to study the structure of nanocrystalline materials is considered and successfully applied to V2O5.nH2O xerogel and Cs intercalated inside the pores of the zeolite ITQ-4. We find that V2O5.nH2O is an assembly of almost perfect bi-layers of VO5 units encapsulating the water molecules. Inside the nanopores of ITQ-4 the cesium ions are found to assemble in short-range ordered zig-zag chains.

Atomic-scale structure of nanocrystalline CeO2–ZrO2 oxides by total x-ray diffraction and pair distribution function analysis

Total x-ray diffraction and atomic pair distribution function analysis have been used to determine the atomic ordering in nanocrystalline (∼1.5 nm in size) CeO2–ZrO2 prepared by a sol–gel route. Experimental data show that the oxides are a structurally and chemically inhomogeneous mixture of nanoscale domains with cubic-type and monoclinic-type atomic ordering, predominantly occupied by Ce and ...

Structure of nanocrystalline Ti3C2 MXene using atomic pair distribution function.

The structures of nanocrystalline pristine, potassium hydroxide and sodium acetate intercalated new two-dimensional materials Ti3C2 MXenes were studied using the x-ray atomic pair distribution function technique. Pristine MXene has a hexagonal structure with a=b=3.0505(5)  Å, c=19.86(2)  Å (S.G. P63/mmc No. 194). Both hydroxyl and fluoride terminating species are present. The intercalation of K...

Size, shape, and internal atomic ordering of nanocrystals by atomic pair distribution functions: a comparative study of gamma-Fe2O3 nanosized spheres and tetrapods.

Due to their limited length of structural coherence nanocrystalline materials show very diffuse powder X-ray diffraction patterns that are difficult to interpret unambiguously. We demonstrate that a combination of high-energy X-ray powder diffraction and atomic pair distribution function analysis can be used to both assess the geometry (i.e., size and shape) and determine the internal atomic or...

Atomic-scale structure of nanocrystalline ZrO2 prepared by high-energy ball milling

The atomic-scale structure of nanocrystalline ZrO2 obtained by ball milling has been studied using highenergy x-ray diffraction and the atomic pair distribution function technique. The studies show that, upon relatively short milling times, the parent crystalline material, monoclinic ZrO2, evolves into a nanocrystalline phase that is locally similar to monoclinic zirconia but shows a cubic-type...

Nanostructure by high-energy X-ray diffraction

X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) has long been used to determine the atomic-scale structure of materials. This technique is based on the fact that the wavelength of X-rays is comparable to the distances between atoms in condensed matter. When a material exhibiting a long-range (i.e. at least micrometers), periodic atomic order, such as a crystal, is irradiated with X-rays it acts as an extended, well-de...
